Daft Punk

Bio

Daft Punk are a French electronic music duo from Paris, France. The duo consists of Guy Manuel de Homem Cristo and Thomas Bangalter, they originally started off as a group called Darlin with Laurent Brancowitz in 1992 as soon as they came out of school. With little success the group disbanded and then Brancowitz went to another group leaving Bangalter and de Homem Christo to experiment with demos and tracks by themselves.  In 1997 Daft Punk came out with its debut album Homework which was seen to be where they reached significant popularity during the 90's house music movement. They have had many success through the years with the 2001 release of the album Discovery and then the more recent album of Random Access Memories

Album

Almost all of Daft Punk's albums are very simple and basic showing only the album name and Daft Punk icons being the two helmets that they wear. Iconography is very important for Daft Punk because it helps them to be recognized so there is always the Daft Punk icon on every album. When you look at the album there is not a lot to describe, for example, in their 2013 album Random Access Memories there is just the Daft Punk icon  and the title of the album. This also gives focus to the actual group itself not actually distracting the audience or potential buyers from the contents inside. All of their albums exhibit the same simpleness to the album itself with a dark background and the title of the album on the front, the only deviation from this is the Alive 2007 album from the tour they did in 2007 and all of the mixes they did are live from said concerts.

Concert

Alike Deadmau5, Daft Punk's concerts heavily rely on lighting. This is to add another dimension to their music when they are playing. They are put center stage in their 'Triangle Room' which is also lighted giving them a better view of the audience. In terms of costume, Daft Punk always wear their signature helmets but wear similar clothing to each other. Throughout the years they have also reinvented their style to match with the times. For example, in the years of the album Discovery (2001 - 2004) they mainly wore leather trousers, leather jackets and they changed their helmets to become more disco related such as adding more colours that flash and typical icons of disco. In the more recent yeras of Random Access Memories they changed it to black dinner suits and went back to the original colours of their helmets being gold, black and silver.

Deadmau5

Bio

Deadmau5 or Joel Thomas Zimmerman was born in January 5, 1981 he is  better known by his stage name, is a Canadian progressive house music producer and performer from Toronto. Deadmau5 mainly sticks to his genre and if he collaborates with anyone it will normally be with the artists of his own genre, for example, in his album 4x4=12 he collaborates with two artists of the same genre Chris Lake and Wolfgang Gartner who are both house music Dj's.

Album Cover

Deadmau5's album covers always show the icon of the helmet/costume that he wears being the mouse helmet. This icon is everywhere on his albums but also helps for him to be known as no other artist wears this type of mouse related costume. However, there are other artists that wear this kind of costume, for example, Daft Punk wear their own helmets with a design thats suited to the type of music that they do. The use of iconography helps Deadmau5 to be recognised amongst the artist which gives him an edge and a boost compared to the other house artists.

Concert

Most of Deadmau5's concerts involve him in set designed like a cube and he sits at the tope. Seeing as he's a single artist the whole of the set is made for him and centres on him. Deadmau5 mainly relies on lighting to add to the experience and to enhance the song that he is playing. Whilst the lighting is in full swing most of the attention is focused on what Deadmau5 is doing i.e his actions such as a fist bump or actions to involve the audience in what he is doing. This also enhance the experience because it gets the audience more involved with the artist especially as at shows they allow the audience to video or record the show to pass it on to friends or post it on a social media site.
